Behavioural Activation for Low Mood

Using activity and behaviour change to lift mood, independent of how a client currently feels.

Registration is through Eventbrite, run by Practical CBT, Professor McGhee's training organisation.

The session

From the model to your practice

  1. The model
    • The vicious cycle of withdrawal, inactivity and worsening mood in depression.
    • Activity scheduling and grading tasks by mastery and pleasure.
    • Setting achievable, values-linked goals rather than vague 'get more active' instructions.
  2. Your questions, live. This is the part a recording cannot give you.
  3. In practice, in Flutura
    • Setting a graded activity as homework between sessions, from the dashboard.
    • Tracking a client's active tasks and completion rate, week on week.
    • Protocols as curated, evidence-based pathways you can assign as a structured programme, rather than one worksheet at a time.

Learning outcomes

What you will leave with

  • How structured, trackable homework improves follow-through compared with a printed activity diary.
  • How progress data, such as completion rate and active tasks, supports session planning and review.
  • How a protocol-based pathway keeps a course of behavioural activation coherent from session to session.

Who teaches it

Professor Patrick McGhee

Chartered Psychologist and BABCP-accredited CBT therapist, 30 years across clinical practice, research and higher education. Assistant Vice Chancellor at the University of Greater Manchester and the author of The Ultimate CBT Handbook.

He co-founded Flutura.
